SURVIVAL

Sometimes only the name is enough
to enliven the monster
groping inside you
to open the hole in your chest.

Pain is a wound that never heals,
even if you live for
hundreds of thousand of years.

'Time heals every wound.'
Each letter in the line is a lie.
Time doesn't heal,
time only enhances.

As time passes,
it brings with it
the immense pain.

Even if the pain lessens,
there's the intolerable numbness
that is sometimes
worse than the pain itself.

When the only one you love
leaves you forever,
how do you find the strength
to even survive?

Happiness becomes a foreign emotion,
a smile becomes an alien
and soon even the muscles ache
when it comes to forcing a laugh.

In all of this,
life goes on
but what does not go on
is you,
and that is a truth
that when dawns on you
brings with it the anxiety
but not the required strength
and soon you find
that you could survive better
when you didn't know
how to survive!
